Most people consider traffic the number one problem yet the Traffic Circulation Study is two years behind schedule. Major developments are being approved without considering the cumulative impact on traffic and quality of life.
Many cities would welcome the enthusiasm and willingness of its citizens who volunteer their time and expertise on commissions, at workshops and community projects. Unfortunately, the current Encinitas council majority does not. Citizen commissions are discouraged from taking an active role in advising the Council about community issues.
In recent surveys the public has rated open space and habitat conservation as important goals yet no new viable land has been purchased in the last four years.
The city should adopt a sustainable landscaping program using native and drought-tolerate plants to reduce the need for irrigation and maintenance.
The decisions we make today will impact future generations. I want them to have the same, and even better, quality of life we enjoy now.
My campaign will be grassroots. I will not solicit or encourage funds from special interest groups nor will I hire a consultant to develop a slick political campaign. I will not seek the endorsement of groups that have a financial interest in city business.
