Dear Friends,

With 2007 behind us I am enthusiastic about the new year.

Even as a freshman on the city council, I made great strides in reaching the goals I had set.

We have had a number of successes this year...the Environmental Advisory Committee, solar panels on city hall, no spot zoning to benefit private development, Beach and Park Smoking Ban, televised Planning Commission meetings and real-time televised Council Meetings.

Most importantly, there has been positive reaction from the community and media to my efforts to have more open meetings.

In 2008, I will continue to champion the publics' right to know and transparency in government. We will also open up the lines of communication concerning development, water conservation, open space and traffic.

The process of updating the city's General Plan will begin in mid-2008. The General Plan sets the tone and direction for future development. Your participation in this process is vital to insure that we create a sustainable city.

Many of us have had the privilege of growing up in this area and have fond memories of that place and time. We can maintain that unique and special experience for current and future residents but we must all participate and contribute to make it happen.

With your continued support, I know we will succeed in making Encinitas a great place to live, work and play.

Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Optimistically,  Teresa.
